Is it really free?

There are no charges for the conference. You may wish to contribute to the costs of the event. If so there will be an opportunity at the conference to do so.

How do I get there?

Here are the details of how to find us.

Who is organising the conference?

The planning has been undertaken by people from York Evangelical Church, but the conference programme - as with John Newton's lifelong commitments - is for like-minded Christians across denominational boundaries. You can contact the conference organisers if you would like to know more.

Why have a conference about John Newton?

If you have reached this stage you probably do not need persuading that an occasion to reflect on the life, writing and ministry of John Newton - on this the tercentenary of his birth - is an opportunity worth taking up. Slavery, the spread of ideas on Christian worship, how to strengthen Christian fellowship, what to think in the face of national and international threats - these all are issues to which John Newton has something to say today.

What do I need to bring?

Although refreshments will be provided morning and afternoon, please bring a packed lunch or come in expectation of finding a nearby eating place for lunch. In addition, we will have a varied bookstall, so come ready to browse and hopefully buy.

Why have a kids’ conference?

We all have something to learn from people in Church History and a parallel conference for primary school children is a best way to do that in a fun and age-appropriate way. Find out More.
